BIO 2
Some people would say I’m a complex guy. A Texas native with no hat and no boots, I grew up in Oklahoma but have no discernible accent. I studied engineering and architecture in college, but graduated with a BFA in photography. And despite my complexity, or maybe because of it, I live by one guiding principle. Simplify.
I’m often asked what kind of photography I do, and the best explanation I can give is by way of a story.
I once was asked to photograph a very refined architect who as a young woman traveled unaccompanied in Asia in the 1920s. As she told me, “That was then quite scandalous!” My job was simply to create a picture that communicated her elegance and dignity, with just enough scandal thrown in to make it interesting.
So that’s what I do. I take a subject, figure out what’s interesting about it, and simplify.
